Summary:
The Certified Reading Teacher is responsible for serving as advocate for our members and providing after-school tutoring and guidance to members.
This position is responsible for overall growth and sustainability of the Reading Center.
This position is responsible for planning and implementation of age-appropriate curriculum for first and second grade members Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
1.
Ensure a positive, fun, safe and engaging climate for all programs at all times.
2.
Develop a positive relationship with members, parents/guardians, volunteers, guests as well as coordinates with teachers and the school system.
3.
Track attendance, and progress on Lexia, as well as Beaufort County reading curriculum, Fontes and Pinelle 4.
Supervise and discipline of members based on Club rules, policies and procedures.
5.
Provide guidance to members, act as role model.
6.
Ensure safety, positive values and ethical behavior through quality programs, and the appearance of the Club, at all times.
7.
Maintain equipment, supplies and facilities.
8.
Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluation programs including BGCA's Commitment to Quality.
Other administrative duties include, but are not limited to, tracking documentation of members in the in-school program, data collection.
9.
Assist with Club fundraisers as needed.
10.
Participate in meetings related to various programs and activities and inform Program Director of progress and/or changes to programs and goals.
11.
Working with Program Director, control expenditures and make recommendations for expenditures, as they relate to the programs.
12.
When appropriate, supervise partners and volunteers who can offer instruction/support to our members.
Train on safety and ensures compliance with safety policies for the Reading Center.
13.
Participate in individual and group supervision sessions and periodic professional development opportunities.
14.
Participates in special programs, events and other projects as directed by Program Director.
15.
Maintain regular contact with Operations Director, Club staff, Club members and parents, to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions.
16.
The Reading Teacher is expected to collaborate effectively with peers and other staff of the Boy & Girls Clubs of Hilton Head Island (BGCHHI) organization and as needed with Boys & Girls Club of America and larger community to increase effectiveness and engagement with youth in our community.
17.
Establish & maintain contact and good public relations with external community groups, schools, members' parents/guardians, building and community partners and others as necessary to maintain and grow a successful youth program.
18.
Must be available to work Monday - Friday; occasional Saturdays may be available 19.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
State Teacher Certification 2
years working within a youth development program or agency in a leadership role is required.
Experience managing others Knowledge of trends in educational planning, and implementation Required proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications:
Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as other software, and web competency required.
Group leadership skills with an understanding of group dynamics and classroom management is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish a plus.
